Hong Kong

On november 16, I arrived in Norway for a 3 week vacation in my hometown of Kongsberg.
Kongsberg is a small town about 80km southwest of the capitol Oslo. The town was founded in 1624 by the danish king Christian IV because silver was found in the mountainside above the town.
From 1624 to 1957 the silver was taken out of the mountain and made Kongsberg a very important town in Norway.
Today the most important industries there is a weapons factory and many different companies producing everything from parts for drilling oil to airplane parts.

When I arrived in Norway it was a freezing -4 degrees celsius(cold when you are used to living in The Philippines). I booked my flight back to The Philippines with Aeroflot,Russian Airlines for saturday december 9.  I used my time in Norway for work and visiting a couple of friends.

On saturday december 9 it was time to go to the airport. It was a freezing -15 degrees and I was so happy to get away from the cold weather.

I checked in at Oslo Airport(Gardermoen) and boarded a plane heading for Moscow,Russia.
After 2 hours and 30 minutes I arrived in Sheremetyevo Airport in Moscow, where I had to wait 2 hours for my connecting flight to Hong Kong(also with Aeroflot) After 9 hours and 30 minutes I landed in Hong Kong International Airport. After waiting in line for about 30 minutes I got through immigration and could start to make my way into Hong Kong City.

After about 50 minutes on the airport express train and then a bus for 15 minutes, I arrived at my hotel called Hotel Canada. This hotel is a small hotel with very small, but comfortable rooms. I used some frequent flyer miles to pay it,but the price is normally around 80 HKG dollars.  You can also get a family room which is good for 4 pax at 195 HKG dollars.
The hotel is owned by a filipno man,and all the staff was from The Philippines.

After finding the room and taking a shower it was time to explore the area around the hotel.

As you can see ,the hotel is situated very central in Hong Kong. I went outside and walked around. I got the impression that the area had alot of designer-clothing stores and many jewellers. There is a wide selection of restaurants in the area also(especially Indian,Pakistani and Malaysian)

Even if it was a sunday, it was crowded with people and all the shops were open(unlike Europe). I walked down to the harbour area and there was alot of people there sitting in the sun and just enjoyning their day off.

I then felt hungry,so I decided to find a place to eat. I found a burger-place that had quite nice burgers at a nice price (35 HKG dollars) After that I decide to take a small rest in my hotel, but being in a city I had never been in before, I decide to explore some more. I walked around a bit again and sat down in a park where I started to talk to one of the locals. I learned alot about the place from our talk, and he learned things about Norway. Martin as his name was, lived in a condominium and worked in a bank. Nice guy :)

I took some pictures, so if you want to see them? They are in a post on the Pooreigners' Journey page on facebook :)
